Un fotógrafo vuelve a Islandia después de más de diecisiete años de viajes continuos. Desde 2008 ha recorrido la isla en más de treinta expediciones fotográficas, guiando a fotógrafos españoles y chilenos y trabajando en proyectos para empresas locales. Su relación con el país no es la de un turista, sino la de alguien que ha aprendido a conocer sus carreteras, sus estaciones extremas y sus rincones más remotos.
A lo largo de ese tiempo ha construido un extenso archivo fotográfico y audiovisual que documenta la transformación progresiva del territorio. Pero ese archivo no solo muestra el cambio del paisaje, sino también el de su propia mirada.
En su regreso, el protagonista se enfrenta a una realidad silenciosa: los lugares que creía conocer ya no son exactamente los mismos. La naturaleza, los accesos y la presencia humana han modificado el equilibrio que recordaba. Sin embargo, la película no busca señalar responsables ni emitir un juicio, sino explorar la relación íntima entre la memoria y el tiempo.
A través del archivo personal del protagonista, Tu Testigo construye un relato donde el pasado y el presente conviven en una misma imagen. Las fotografías y vídeos registrados durante más de una década se convierten en la estructura narrativa de la película, funcionando como fragmentos de memoria que dialogan con el presente del viaje.
La obra se plantea como una carta a Islandia, pero también como una reflexión sobre la responsabilidad del fotógrafo que comparte lo que ama. En ese proceso, el protagonista comprende que toda mirada deja una huella, y que el acto de enseñar un lugar también forma parte de su transformación.

A photographer returns to Iceland after more than seventeen years of continuous travel. Since 2008, he has travelled the length and breadth of the island on more than thirty photographic expeditions, guiding Spanish and Chilean photographers and working on projects for local companies. His relationship with the country is not that of a tourist, but of someone who has come to know its roads, its extreme seasons and its most remote corners.
Over that time, he has built up an extensive photographic and audiovisual archive documenting the gradual transformation of the landscape. But this archive shows not only how the landscape has changed, but also how his own perspective has evolved.
On his return, the protagonist is confronted with a silent reality: the places he thought he knew are no longer exactly the same. Nature, access routes and human presence have altered the balance he remembered. However, the film does not seek to point the finger or pass judgement, but rather to explore the intimate relationship between memory and time.
Through the protagonist’s personal archive, *Tu Testigo* constructs a narrative in which the past and the present coexist within a single image. The photographs and videos recorded over more than a decade form the film’s narrative structure, functioning as fragments of memory that engage in dialogue with the present-day journey.
The film is conceived as a letter to Iceland, but also as a reflection on the responsibility of the photographer who shares what he loves. In this process, the protagonist realises that every gaze leaves a mark, and that the act of revealing a place is also part of its transformation.

In less than a decade, this island nation went from being a Nordic hidden gem to welcoming seven times its population in visitors each year. ‘Iceland: The Cost of Tourism’ is a biographical essay that delves into the hidden implications of this tourism boom. Through a letter to Iceland, this documentary reflects on the challenges facing the tourism industry, as environmental movements and economic interests seek to strike a balance.
